Browsers and Accessibility
We recommend using the most current versions of Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox or Chrome.
There are easy-to-use browser controls for adjusting the size of content on a web page. There are no ideal content size or color combinations for all people. By using the controls provided in browsers, you can personalize the content presentation in your browser. We’ve designed the web content we provide to work with these controls.
1. Adjusting text size
Browsers typically provide two controls for adjusting the size of text (fonts) on a web page: Text Size and Zoom
Text or font size adjustments only change the size of text on a web page. You may be more limited in terms of the range of user control with text size than with zoom. Browser text size adjustments may not change the size of text in videos.
Zoom adjustments enlarge or reduce the size of all page content.
- Internet Explorer: Controls for text size are on the View > Text Size menu.
- Firefox: Controls for text size are on the View > Zoom menu. In some versions, holding both the "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys and pressing the "+" or "-" keys will also change the text size.
- Chrome: Text size controls are on the Settings page. To find it, choose the wrench or bars icon in the upper right corner of the browser window to open the Customize menu and choose "Settings." At the bottom of the Settings page, choose "Show advanced settings..." and then scroll down to the "Web content" section.
- Safari: Controls for text size are on the View menu. To change just the text size, check the Zoom Text Only option, then choose the Zoom In or Zoom Out options. Once you’ve checked “Zoom Text Only,” you can also change the text size by holding the Command key down and pressing the "+" or "-" keys.
2. Adjusting size of all content
To change the size of images, buttons, text and all of the content shown on a web page, use the Zoom controls
- Internet Explorer: Zoom controls are on the View > Zoom menu. In some versions for a PC, you can also adjust the zoom level by holding the "Ctrl" key and pressing the "+" or "-" keys. Additionally, you can control the level of zoom by using the slider in the lower right corner of the browser.
- Firefox: Zoom controls are on the View > Zoom menu. In some versions for a PC, you can also change the zoom level by holding the "Ctrl" key down and pressing the "+" or "-" keys.
- Chrome: Zoom controls are on the Customize menu. To open this menu, choose the wrench or bars icon in the upper right corner of the browser window. You can also find zoom controls on the Settings page. To find it, choose the wrench or bars icon in the upper right corner of the browser window to open the Customize menu and choose "Settings." At the bottom of the Settings page, choose "Show advanced settings..." and then scroll down to the "Web content" section. In some versions for a PC, you can also change the zoom level by holding the "Ctrl" key down and pressing the "+" or "-" keys.
- Safari: Zoom controls are on the View menu. To change the size of all content, make sure you haven’t checked the Zoom Text Only, then choose the Zoom In or Zoom Out options. When you have the Zoom Text Only option unchecked, you can also change the zoom level by holding the Command key down and pressing the "+" or "-" keys.
Screen reader applications
For the best online experience, we recommend several screen reader applications for customers with vision disabilities: JAWS, VoiceOver and NVDA. On mobile devices, we recommend TalkBack for Android devices and Voice-Over for the iPhone and iPad.
If you use JAWS as your screen reader, we recommend using it with Internet Explorer; if you use NVDA as your screen reader, we recommend using it with FireFox.
As software and browser manufacturers release new versions with upgrades and improvements, we continually test our web pages and provide recommendations. While other browsers and assistive technology applications may work, at least in part with our website, testing all possible versions is not practical. We can’t guarantee the best user experience if you decide to use software and browser versions that are not specifically recommended herein.
Software recommendations
We follow the W3C's globally recognized standards to provide content that’s compatible with computer-based assistive technologies and browsers. We recommend using the most current versions of the manufacturer's assistive technology applications, along with a current version of the browsers listed below. We also recommend trying different types of browsers with assistive technology applications to determine which combination works best for you.
What efforts were taken
We conducted an independent full site scan using 3rd Party Software on all pages and PDFs for ADA Compliance regulation including but not limited to:
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Checked
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0) Checked to level AA
- NVDA Accessibility Supported Checked
- VoiceOver Accessibility Supported Checked
- WindowEyes Accessibility Supported Checked
We utilize 3rd party software that is leading the way with ADA Compliance since 2007 and is used by over 30% of fortune 100 companies. We understand that all software is different and can provide different results. Software and/or computing algorithms are not always updated in the same manner to interpret the most recent guidelines for WACG 2.0 (Level AA).
We understand that scanning software’s vary and even though we use one of the best software solutions in the industry that is highly recommended we also validated our site with free COTF Software that might provide some different results that we identified as possible real errors that need to be remediated.
Finally we installed NVDA and JAWS to see if accessibility and site usability was being hindered when viewing our site using assistant technologies.
